Comfortaire's original air bed consisted of deep filled latex-cotton air chambers set inside foam side rails topped with a foam comfort layer all contained within a zippered covered cover and controlled by an electronic device to inflate and deflate the mattress. This basic construction continues to be used by the industry today.
