While our original design is functional, and has been the industry standard, Comfortaire® is and always will be an innovator.

We innovated a new Box-Top Aire™ mattress by placing the air in the surface of the mattress where it gently cushions each unique body shape and provides proper postural alignment. Our design is elegant, yet simple.

Dynamic Sleep Surfaces

After nearly 20 years of producing our original, industry changing, air bed designs, we went back to the drawing board in an attempt leverage consumer feedback in creating the next generation of air sleep.

This process led us to the understanding that air was best utilized as a posturizing layer, in other words, the value of air was rooted in allowing sleepers to remain in a healthy walking posture while they sleep, and in giving them the ability to change their sleeping posture with life’s changes. We also found that there are three keys to creating a proper sleeping environment First, a mattress must offer good base support. Simply stated, this layer keeps a sleeper from sagging too deeply into the mattress and into a hammocked, unnatural position. Second, a proper sleeping surface must include a dynamic layer that allows the sleeper to control the middle of the body. Thin layers of air, close to the surface, allow sleepers to pivot their hips up and down in the mattress until they find the just right (natural) position in which they are intended to sleep. This natural position actually removes stress from the skeletal system, placing sleepers in a stress free environment. The final key, and perhaps most important, is tied to surface comfort. The firm mattress myth that touted that in order for a mattress to be healthy, it must be firm, has been soundly rejected. In fact, trends today are toward very plush mattresses that provide true surface comfort which is a key to good sleep. Unfortunately, plush top mattresses tend to create another issue which is breakdown and body impression. As a result, our goal in comfort became tied to our ability to create a plush, comfortable surface that would not break down over time. Our patented box top air design provides sturdy base support, topped with a low profile air chamber that extends to the outer edges of the mattress, allowing for perfect control of sleep posture and is finally crowned with plush comfort that virtually removes surface pressure.

Our unique formula of STATIC SUPPORT + DYNAMIC POSTURE CONTROL + PLUSH SURFACE COMFORT = UNMATCHED COMFORT and durable support that is truly designed to last for the life of our mattress. Others try to match us by layering foam over the top of our original 1981 design, but the net result takes the sleeper further away from the dynamic layer of air and its innate ability to help the sleeper to control his night time posture.
